FAQs > Basics

  1. What is MPme?

MPme is curated radio. By this, we mean radio that is chosen specifically for you. We do this by listening to thousands of radio stations in real-time and use that data plus your music library, listening habits and those of your friends to recommend stations that will be great for you. And then you can listen to them.

  2. What is the difference between MPme and Spotify, Pandora and iTunes?

MPme recommends radio stations and connects you with the DJs who are choosing the music and creating fresh, new playlists every moment of every day. In contrast, Spotify looks to you or your friends to choose what to play. Pandora uses a computer algorithm. iTunes mainly relies on you to make your own choices.

  3. Does MPme replace other music services?

Not at all. MPme works in harmony with services such as Spotify and iTunes. When you see an artist or track that you’d like to listen to straightaway then just press the Buy button on the artist or track pages. This will give you the option to buy the track or album directly in iTunes. If you don’t know how to find those pages, have a look at the FAQ for the device that you’re using. There is a breakdown of the interface and how to use it.

  4. What are the key features of MPme? What makes it different from other radio applications?

Recommendations – most music radio applications present you with long, impenetrable lists of radio stations. Listeners have to do all the work. This is time-consuming and mostly trial and error. MPme recommends stations that may be of interest to you.

Find similar – radio stations often have partially-determined playlists. The result is that if you listen for an extended period of time you may hear the same thing twice. MPme will recommend other stations that are similar but different so you can switch and have more of the same sort of music but also discover new, related music and, perhaps find a new favourite radio station.

Favorites – if you find a station, artist or track you like, you can favorite it. So whenever you’re in the mood for something in particular you can go to your Favorites. Select a station, artist or track and MPme will present you with a list of recommended stations.

Airplay support – if you have any devices that support Airplay then you can use MPme with them. With external speakers the Listener can, well, listen. If it’s a second-screen, such as Apple TV, then we’ll show the Listener what’s playing on that screen. Meanwhile you can continue to browse radio, artist and track information.

The design – We believe MPme looks lovely and is a pleasure to use.

  5. How much does it cost?

Nothing. It’s free. Of course, it costs money to make something like MPme and to keep it up and running so we do three things:
    a) Show a few adverts. We try to make these visible whilst not getting in the way of what the Listener is up to.
    b) Allow radio stations and artists to add their own content to their pages. This could be sneak previews of new releases, competitions or high-quality videos.
    c) In the future we will offer a premium version with more features for ‘keen’ Listeners.

  6. Why does Listener have a capital L?

Because you’re important people so if you have any feedback you’d like to share with us, please contact us using our Contact form.

  7. On which devices is MPme available?

Currently MPme is available on iPad. The iPhone and Android version will follow in Q2 2012.

  8. If I run a radio station, an artist or am in a band, can I add extra information to my information pages?

Yes, and we’d love it if you’d like to add new content such as exclusive band video and/or hi-resolution photos. We may also be able to promote your radio station or your tracks. There’s more information on this in the Promoting stations and artists section of this FAQ. Or you could just drop us a line using our Contact form.

  9. Can I use MPme data or install MPme software on other consumer devices?

If you’re interested in using our data or perhaps are an electronics manufacturer looking to partner with us and distribute MPme on your products then please do get in touch using our Contact form. There is also a Partnerships FAQ that may well be worth a look.
